Bringing AI to All
Founded in 2023, the CAMS Machine Learning Club is a student-run club at the California Academy of Mathematics and Science in Carson, CA. Our mission is to bring together a dedicated community of students to learn about and discuss a future with machine learning and artificial intelligence.
In weekly meetings, we discuss the fundamentals of machine learning alongside the latest cutting-edge developments in the field. Our introductory series introduces new members to machine learning concepts and applications, such as the basics of neural networks, gradient descent, loss functions, and backpropagation. After this introduction, members learn to implement these concepts in code in collaborative projects.
In the near future, we seek to expand the club to reach more individuals and facilitate an environment of growth where members can best learn and build artificial intelligence projects. We also seek to host and participate in machine learning competitions to promote the development of skills necessary for using machine learning. Additionally, we hope to bring a dedicated machine learning course to the school to devote more resources to learning about this critical field and to reach more students.

In this semester, our club discussions will explore a range of engaging topics. We will delve into the ethical aspects of AI art and the utilization of copyrighted human creations in AI development. Additionally, we'll examine the path toward achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI), ponder the future of AI-human interfaces, and discuss the role of AI in defense. Our aim is to foster discussions that resonate not only with our club members but also with a wider audience, as AI affects everyone in various ways.
